Semien Mountains National Park is one of the National Parks of
Ethiopia. Located in the Semien Gondar Zone of the Amhara
Region, its territory covers the Semien Mountains and includes
Ras Dashan, the highest point in Ethiopia and fourth-highest in
Africa.
It is home to a number of species, including the Ethiopian wolf,
Gelada Baboon, and the Walia Ibex.
It was one of the first sites to be made a World Heritage Site
by UNESCO (1978) however, due to serious population declines of
the characteristic native species; in 1996 it was also added to
the List of World Heritage Sites in danger.

Semien Mountains Trekking

This tour covers both the highland and low land massifs of the
Semien Mountains. Flight to Gonder will take you to the 17thc
Capital of Ethiopia -GONDER. You will explore the castle
compound and Debrebirhan Selassie church (The only surviving
church from the Mehadist s' devastating attack.) while at the
same time acclimatizing yourself for the altitude of the
mountains. On the first day you will drive to Sankaber (3200 m),
then trek to Gich via Jinbar fall, then an excursion to a view
point of Imetgogo, Saha and Kedadit .
Chenek will be the next trekking destination (3600 m) passing
through Enatiye View point, then at this point you will have two
options to go. First, if you are interested climping Ras Dashen
,which is dusty and less interesting than the second option ,
you will proceed to Ambiqua through Buhait Pass, continue to Ras
Dashen Summit and Arko Azye. Now your trekking is passing to the
lowlands of the mountain. If you are tired, you can drop here
and drive direct to Gonder . The first of the low lands will be
Lamo/ Mekarebia followed by Hwaza , and then you end your
trekking at Adi Arkai. At this point, you can decide to drive to
either Gonder or Axum.
The second option, which is believed to be more interesting for
those who are not obsessed with the thought of climbing Ras
Dashen ,allows you to climb some more mountains of above 4 000
meters and you will enjoy more scinic areas. From Chenek, you
will proceed to ArkoAziye via Bwahit pass (4430 m), then
climbing Beroch Wuha (4272 m) to Sona .Then to Silki (4420) and
Mekarebia which ends at Aderkay passing Mulite.

Felash (Black Jews) village.
